Moments after giving the computer command to "throttle up" the power plant's energy production, Bill Gross explains the process happening outside in which 24,000 mirrors are being precisely aligned to reflect sunlight to Sierra's two towers and the boilers mounted on top.
Sierra's "Tower Two" stands dim as it awaits its ceremonial lighting which will be viewed by guests sheltered from the sun's rays and watching through the clear windows of the white tent in the distance.
Guests gather to get a closer look at the heliostats on display - and the mirror field a short distance away - as they wait for the ceremony to begin.
A lone heliostat can harness the sun's energy to power a clean energy future, but it can also provide a sunburn if you're not careful.
